Farewell to a rare breed

The night is done and reality has dawned; you are not going to resume here next week Monday.

I have just finally reckoned that it has all come to an end. The many beautiful nights of closing at 9:00pm and strolling together to the bus stop to latch onto the next available bus, is over- Those nights would have been completely bland and tiresome without you.

The early mornings at work, where we gisted about all that could be talked about is also gone. 

The endless times I'd be out on calls and I will put a call through to you to help me consummate a transaction in the office is over. ‎

In retrospect, I remember how we started this journey together and I wondered how, like a snail, you creep into people's lives and become an integral part of their being... it's absolutely unfathomable but then again, you are Olugbenga Gideon- a rare breed.

It was a moment of mixed feelings when you informed me of your intention to resign because I rejoiced heartily for the quantum leap you were about to make in life's journey, but then again the selfish human instincts kicked in and I wished you could stay. Ultimately, I'm glad that you burned the bridge.

As I rode home one day. I thought to myself: 'but they said no one is perfect', then I faulted that saying for an instant because you are all shades of right. How can a man be so emotionally intelligent, be so mentally capable, morally upright and have sound principles and firm religious beliefs that form the core of his being? I asked rhetorically.

 I often like to believe that you've been acting a script but if you have, then I have to commend your theatre skills!

Knowing you and working with you has been a wonderful experience that cannot be completely expressed with words and as you forge ahead in your endeavours, I wish you the best of all that life has got to offer you.
