I came to my blog/scrapbook and met a ghost of what it should be. I'm a bit rueful of the fact that I haven't put up a post this week; it has been mostly due to my state of health. I fell slightly Ill during the week- I'm still yet to figure if was a physical illness, as all possible tests came back negative, or a psychological illness that comes with my job.
At some point I'll figure out what it really is, right now I will prepare to sleep whilst I think of a possible write up for today.
In the midst of all my thoughts, I had just laid on the mattress and lay my head on the pillow, ready to make my eyelids enjoy a long kiss as I retire for the night(since no write up ideas were coming), when I stumbled on this picture...
It's self explanatory and a very simplistic view of the 'should be' ideal life. Any woman who can get this kind of balance in life will definitely be envied by most people.
I was intrigued by this 4 liner because essentially through succinct phrases, it has successfully captured the 'dream life'...
1) Wealth - 'make money'
2) Career- 'work hard'
3) Relationship- 'eat with good people'
4) Power- comes with 1, 2 and 3 above
5)Love- 'love the same man over and over again'
6)Rest- the lady in the picture
Managing the list above and maintaining a decent balance is not just an arduous task, it is close to impossible. This is so, because while you are busy with 1 and 2, 3 often suffers, except a conscious plan is put in place to sustain decent relationships. Also while you focus on 1 and 2, 4 may rise as you ascend the career ladder, but 5 may suffer (precisely why many career women stay unmarried) and 6 most definitely suffers, because meeting those deadlines and surpassing those targets set doesn't come through 6!
Maintaining a general balance in life is a work by itself which as a concept, can be taught, but cannot be enforced.
Each day, I hit the road at 05:15hrs and on the average I arrive at home by 21:00hrs. Once I'm home, the last thing on my mind is chatting or calling an old friend, or attempting any relationship watering activity. All I'm fixated on will be the next day's work or some of my other personal businesses I work on... which takes us to how 1 and 2 robs 3.
I often finish all my prospective money making ventures at about 00:00hrs and may crawl to bed 30 mins after. At 4:30hrs, my mindless alarm blares out loud; it's time to prepare for work... I'm robbed of 6 trying to attain 1-mostly for me, then 2.
Early in the morning, I'm out, late in the night I arrive, what time do I have to nuture 5???
Amidst all of this harsh realities, I, and every other person in my shoes, are blindly optimistic that we will live a life of that beautiful lady in the image above.
In the spirit of Nollywood, there will be a second part of this post which will focus on how we can maintain this coveted balance; that post will come after I have started trying out the solutions to be proffered... Stay tuned. Ciao.XOXO

can we find that balance in this present life of ours? Too many mindleas tasks of making money at the expense of No 5 &6. Balance involves discipline which comes with a repeated routine of sticking to things that matters to our achieving No 6.
ReplyDeleteXoxo.
Very well said Yemi... I'm still working on that balance; things are looking up. Though I'm not there yet, I have moved an inch from where I used to be. Soon as I move a mile, there will be part 2. Thanks for the comment...:)
